XM and Exness compared on minimum deposits, account costs and platforms
Compare the account and payment route you can actually use, not just the broker's headline figures.

XM vs Exness is mainly an account-choice question. Both offer MetaTrader, but the price of your trade depends on the account behind the platform. A deposit minimum tells you how to fund that account; it does not tell you the spread, the overnight charge or how much money an order can lose.

This comparison uses official published information, not a claimed live execution test. Regional menus can differ. A translated website is not proof that the offer applies to residents of the language's home country.

XM vs Exness minimum deposit: compare the payment screen

XM's global account page lists a US$5 minimum for Standard and Ultra Low. Exness does not give one universal Standard deposit amount in its current help guidance: the payment method and region matter. Its Professional accounts have a separate regional first-deposit requirement.

There are three different amounts to keep apart:

  • Account minimum: what the chosen account requires to start.
  • Payment minimum: what the selected funding route accepts.
  • Trading margin: what the intended order requires to open.

Meeting the first two does not guarantee the third. An order can still be too large for the available balance. Raising leverage may reduce its margin requirement, but it does not reduce the loss from the same price movement on the same position.

For example, an advertised US$5 minimum is not RM5 or S$5. Convert the payment currency and check any provider charge before confirming. Our XM minimum-deposit guide explains the account and payment distinction in more detail.

Which account types should you compare?

The XM global menu presents Standard and Ultra Low as its main CFD choices, with a separate Shares account. Other regional menus can differ. Use our XM account-types guide to understand the labels, then check the current application.

Exness separates Standard and Standard Cent from its Pro, Raw Spread and Zero accounts. Start with the cost model you need rather than treating the longest account list as an advantage in itself.

  • Comparing everyday trading costs? Put the available XM account beside Exness Standard or Pro and inspect the same symbol.
  • Considering commission-based pricing? Compare the full charge on Raw Spread or Zero, not only the advertised spread.
  • Planning small orders? Read contract size and minimum volume. Identical lot numbers do not always represent identical exposure.

An account called Standard at one broker need not match another broker's Standard account. Check the specification rather than assuming the names describe an industry-wide package.

Spreads and commissions: calculate one complete trade

A useful comparison starts with your instrument, position size and holding time. For a same-day trade, estimate the spread cost plus commission for opening and closing. For an overnight position, include the applicable swap charge or credit too.

Exness publishes Raw Spread commission of up to US$3.50 per side per lot. That can mean US$7 for a complete one-lot trade before the spread. Its Zero account starts from a different commission schedule, so do not apply one account's rate to the other.

A simple example, not a broker price quote

Assume a position has a pip value of US$1. A fictional spread-only account charges 1.2 pips, making the spread cost US$1.20. A second fictional account has a 0.3-pip spread plus US$0.80 round-trip commission. Its estimated total is US$1.10.

The second account is cheaper by US$0.10 in that example. If its spread widens to 0.6 pips, the total becomes US$1.40 and the result reverses. These numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not measured XM or Exness quotes.

Record quotes at comparable times. Comparing a quiet-session screenshot with a quote during major news is not a fair test. For gold, inspect contract size and the value of a price move rather than reusing a forex pip calculation.

See our XM fees breakdown for the cost components to record. There is no sound basis to promise that XM Ultra Low beats Exness Raw Spread on every instrument, or vice versa.

XM vs Exness bonuses: a real difference, with conditions

XM advertises regional deposit promotions. Exness's help centre says it does not offer welcome, deposit or trading bonuses. That makes XM the relevant option of these two if an eligible deposit promotion is part of what you want to explore.

Keep that benefit separate from trading costs. XM bonus credit is not cash you can withdraw. The percentage, eligible account and rules depend on the offer available to you. Extra margin does not make a trade profitable or remove the risk of losing deposited money.

Read the acceptance and withdrawal conditions before funding for a promotion. Our XM deposit-bonus guide explains the distinction between your deposit, promotional credit and eligible profits. A partner code does not override those conditions.

MT4 and MT5: familiar software, separate accounts

Both brokers support MT4 and MT5. If you already use MetaTrader, much of the interface will be familiar. The account login, server, instruments and trading conditions remain broker-specific.

Moving to XM does not mean entering an Exness login into an XM server. You create the appropriate account and use the credentials supplied for it. Existing positions and balances do not move just because the platform looks the same.

Before changing a setup, check any custom indicator or trading robot against the intended platform version. Our MT4 vs MT5 comparison covers that separate decision. Demo is useful for learning the controls, but it is not proof of identical live execution.

Funding and regional checks for ASEAN readers

If you live in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam, start with the provider's current residence check. This article does not confirm local authorisation or account availability in every country. Read the legal company named in your application rather than borrowing a licence from another company in the group.

Then compare the route you would actually use to deposit and withdraw. Note the payment currency, expected account credit, minimum, fees and stated handling time. An internal processing confirmation and money reaching your bank are different events; neither broker gets a blanket speed win here.

For local examples, see XM deposits from Malaysia or the Singapore minimum-deposit guide. Do not assume a particular bank transfer or wallet is supported until it appears in your own account.

How to decide without opening several funded accounts

  1. Choose one instrument and a position size you understand.
  2. Check which account each provider offers for your actual residence.
  3. Compare the complete trading cost, then the payment route.
  4. Read promotion terms separately, if relevant.
  5. Use demo to learn the platform before deciding whether to trade live.

XM vs Exness FAQ

Is XM or Exness better for a beginner?

XM is worth considering if you want its Standard or Ultra Low account options and access to eligible promotions. Exness is also an option for beginners, with Standard accounts alongside its specialist choices. The better fit depends on your available account, funding route and trade size, not just the broker name.

Does XM have a lower minimum deposit than Exness?

XM's global page lists $5 for Standard and Ultra Low. Exness says Standard funding requirements depend on payment method and region, while Professional accounts have a regional first-deposit requirement. Compare your actual payment screens rather than assuming a universal $5 versus $10 difference.

Does Exness offer a deposit bonus like XM?

Exness's help centre says it does not offer welcome, deposit or trading bonuses. XM advertises deposit bonuses for eligible customers, with regional conditions. XM bonus credit is not withdrawable cash.

Is XM Ultra Low cheaper than Exness Raw Spread?

There is no universal winner. Compare the live spread, round-trip commission and any overnight charge for the same instrument and exposure. A smaller advertised spread can be offset by commission.

Can I use the same MT5 login at XM and Exness?

No. Each broker supplies separate trading credentials and servers. Using MT5 at both does not transfer your account, balance or open positions between them.

Final verdict

Our XM-first shortlist is for readers who want to compare accessible account options and explore any eligible promotion before funding. If that describes you, inspect the XM menu for your residence and try the platform with virtual funds.

Exness deserves a closer look when its particular account pricing suits your strategy. Keep the decision practical: one instrument, one position size and one holding period. Choose the account that fits those needs rather than the biggest headline number.
